Lebanese psychic flooded with calls

BEIRUT, Lebanon -- Michel Hayek, Lebanon's most famous psychic, predicted an Israeli incursion into the south - and since the fighting began, he's been fielding calls from frantic Lebanese and Arabs asking how long the conflict will last, if the economy will crash and if they should leave the country.

Hayek tells his callers they have to make their own decisions. But he also said he is not fleeing Lebanon.

"That reassures them, and many have decided to stay because I'm staying," the tall, dark-haired, 39-year-old psychic told The Associated Press Monday.

Skeptics may shrug off Hayek's predictions as nothing more than pure chance. But it's not the first time he's been right. Hayek said he gets his visions by tuning in to "the billions and billions of vibrations in the sphere."

In his annual TV appearance on New Year's Eve in 2004, Hayek said a huge attack in the capital would disrupt life in downtown Beirut.

Psychic helps find man's belongings

A psychic from Palmerston North has helped searchers find the belongings of a missing elderly man on the banks of the Manawatu River.

James Alexander, 73, disappeared from his rest home in Palmerston North a week ago, prompting an extensive police search.

Search co-ordinator Bill Nicholson says an email from the woman on Friday had enough detail about the missing man for her to be taken seriously.

He says she directed police to a part of a river which they had not considered searching.

The missing man suffers from Alzheimer's disease and it is thought he walked the three or four kilometres from the rest home to the river.

TV Review: Psych

USA Network was absolutely "psych"ed when they found out their newest detective show, Psych, had set the basic cable mark. The show premiered July 7, 2006, and gained the attention of 6.1 million viewers. It was, therefore, the highest-rated premiere for a basic cable series this year. Psych aired right after Monk, a show about a detective with OCD.This time, the detective doesn’t have an extreme case of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Shawn Spencer (James Roday) has a strange gift...or, at least, everybody thinks he does. He claims he’s a psychic when, in fact, he’s far from it. He is just really good at observing things. He and his friend, Gus (Dule Hill), open a private detective agency, Psych. Psych ends up solving police cases before the actual police do.One would think someone would catch on to the fact that Shawn isn’t a psychic.

Psychic aids search for missing Alzheimer's sufferer

A search resumed today for a missing 73-year-old Palmerston North man after a psychic helped police find his personal items on the bank of the Manawatu River.

Sergeant Bill Nicholson said a local woman, who did not want to be named, contacted police on Friday night and described a location to police.

James Alexander, an Alzheimer's sufferer, has been missing more than a week.

The area the psychic described was familiar to police, who launched a search late on Friday.

On Saturday morning the psychic accompanied Land Search and Rescue and police on another search. Mr Alexander's personal items were found on the banks of the Manawatu River shortly after 11am. They found a hat, a shoe, a watch, a lighter and a pair of glasses.
